Sound learning response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher.

WWW: Good coursework, Very good editing in parallel half, Good music video, Use of monochrome images, Good song choice, Use of appropriate footage.
EBI: Same sized images, Less offensive in contrapuntal half.

2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback.
WWW: original images, good sound track, images matched well for the parallel half
EBI: Same size for monochrome images, better editing for the transition between images.

3) Now reflect on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback.

In my opinion, what went well was how I understood the objective of the work and successfully portrayed the difference in contrapuntal and parallel sound. By making such a drastic difference in the type of clips used for each half in order for the contrapuntal and parallel half to not be in debate however very obvious.

It would be even better if I copied I matched the tempo of the music to the monochrome pictures in the contrapuntal sound half as I did in the parallel sound half to really create a stronger effect on the audience on the difference in meaning between prom and war. It would also be even better if the sizes of the monochrome images were the same size so it had the same effect and connote the same meaning  the sudden image of 'Hitler' did at the change as it would've done at the end.

4) Learner response: compare your own video against your evaluation of the top three videos in the class. Whose did you think was best and why? How could you have improved your own video?

I think the best video was Rikuya and Gurleen's as i really enjoyed the sound track and the music. It also powerfully matched with the images of art which clearly allows the audience to perceive it as parallel as it is not ambiguous. Also the creativity for the contrapuntal images really caught my eye and how they were all linked and matching; additionally the images being edited as the same size definitely increased the effect and meaning the video was meant to give the audience.
I could've improved my own video by adding more monochrome images in order to fit the pace of the music chosen as well as focused on the size and each clip and made sure they all took up the same amount of screen. Furthermore, if i'd have chosen a constant theme for the contrast images it would've definitely improved the video.

5) Finally, what have you learned about the importance of sound to film and TV through this week's work?
I learnt that not only does the sound matter but the speed, volume and when the sound track is placed matters and displays different meanings and emotions for the audience. For example, the type of sound it is, that could be the genre of the music which is classical, pop, opera etc. all connote a different meaning and labelling on the characters or setting of the scene the audience gives. The volume (and speed) of the sound track whether it is diegetic or non-diegetic could imply to the audience the urgency of the scene or the personality of the characters as well as the genre of the film. If the sound is a sound bridge it could shift the audience's attention or allow them interpret what is going to happen in a different way; so if a director would want specific meanings and inferences on a film the sound behind it or within it matters a lot.
